MIUI is the custom version of Android Nougat that runs on Xiaomi smartphones. A new version will be announced tomorrow, and shown running on the new Xiaomi Mi 5X. Here’s what we know so far.
When is the MIUI 9.0 release date?
MIUI 9.0 will be unveiled on 26 July. The event will take place at the China National Convention Center at 14:00 GMT+8, and will also include the unveiling of the Mi 5X.
You’ll be able to follow the announcement’s live via Mi’s Facebook event.
Although Xiaomi will be showing off MIUI 9.0, it remains in the beta stages. Xiaomi is calling out for beta testers, but to sign up and use the new OS you must be running the Xiaomi Mi6, Redmi Note 4 (Qualcomm edition) and Redmi Note 4X.
What are the new features in MIUI 9.0?
We don’t know a great deal about the upcoming update to MIUI, but Xiaomi has offered a few tidbits of information.
For starters there is a redesigned lock screen shortcut (shown below), as well as a new split-screen feature, three additional themes and a slimmed down Settings menu that includes the removal of rarely used features.
