Web browsers are a particularly good example of software that wants, and needs, to be a default. Below is an example of how to change things looking at switch from Chrome to Firefox.

How to change your default browser

Start up Firefox and click on the icon comprised of three horizontal lines over in the top-right corner of the window. This will bring up a small menu of icons from which you can select ‘Options’.

In the Options menu you’ll automatically be in the ‘General’ section. Click the ‘Make Default’ button and this will open the settings in Windows 10.

Click the button under ‘Web browser’ which shows the current default and select the one you want from the list, in this case Firefox.

Next, start Chrome, type chrome://settings into the address bar and then press Enter. Under Default browser, you should see that Firefox has been set as the default web browser.

Change all default programs in Windows

If this doesn’t fix your problem or you . Go to the Windows control panel and click on ‘Programs’ then ‘Default Programs’, then ‘Set your default programs’, and click on the one you want to see or change in the left-hand pane.
