Looking to change broadband service to find the best internet provider or simply want to know how your broadband compares to others? You’re in the right place to find out, as we bring you the best broadband deals available in the UK right now and help you decide which is best for you.
Before we start, it’s important to check that the broadband provider you’re interested in can cover your area. You might be surprised to find that a provider that a friend who lives just a few miles away is with might not be able to provide broadband for your home. Most providers offer a tool on their website that’ll help you check.
Also with the Rural Development Programme for England investing £30 million in rural broadband development, things are looking up for those previously underserved when it comes to Internet speeds. For now, here are the best deals going.
What’s the fastest broadband?
Virgin’s fibre-optic broadband is very fast and reliable, available for £32 per month for 12 months. This deal includes line rental, and is actually cheaper than the option without broadband at time of writing. There’s also a £14.99 activation fee to watch out for though.
It’s by no means the cheapest option, but the 50Mbps internet speed is faster than most options offered by rival providers. It has won plenty of broadband awards for overall satisfaction, reliability and speed, so is highly recommended.
50Mbps is brilliant for most single users or couples, but if you share your home with a bigger family who tend to use the internet at once, you might want to consider opting for 100Mbps or even 200Mbps. Virgin offers the former for £37 per month with line rental. There’s the same £14.99 activation fee.
If there’s an online gamer or four in your household, upgrading to 200Mbps is going to give you brilliantly fast internet with absolutely no lag. It’ll cost you £45 per month with line rental included. The £14.99 activation fee applies here too.
Better yet, Virgin has also introduced a package designed with gamers in mind, which in addition to 200Mbps download speeds also offers up to 20Mbps upload and no traffic management. It’s the most expensive option though, at £50 with line rental. The £14.99 activation fee applies here too.
Plus, if you’re looking for a broadband bundle that includes TV there are some more offers to incorporate TV available on Virgin’s website here.
What’s the cheapest broadband?
If you’re not so worried about your internet’s speed but are more concerned about its price, you might be interested in some of these other broadband deals.
Sky offers great deals for new and existing customers, normally in partnership with an upcoming movie. At the moment, if you join with Sky TV, you can get Sky Broadband Unlimited for £18.99 per month for 12 months, and that includes line rental. That’s for 17Mbps download speeds, so much slower than even Virgin’s basic package, but that is reflected by its price tag. You’ll also get access to some extra freebies thanks to the Sky VIP loyalty scheme.
If you’re looking for faster internet, Sky offers its Fibre service with 38Mbps speeds for £20 (note that it’s still slower than Virgin’s 50Mbps base speed), but that’s capped at 25GB, which might not be enough for some users including movie streamers and gamers. It’ll cost you £39 to get this setup, too.
For unlimited Fibre broadband from Sky, it’s £30 per month with line rental included. There’s a £39 set-up fee, too.
The final option is the fastest 76Mbps option with unlimited usage, for £45 per month including line rental with that £39 set-up fee in addition.
Plusnet has some good offers right now, including this 38Mbps offer which’ll get you 18 months of broadband and line rental for £27.50 per month. There’s a one-off £25 activation fee to add to that too.
You can also get 17Mbps for £22.50 per month for 18 months.
Plusnet may not provide the fastest broadband available, but it has some outstanding qualities that helped it win Broadband Genie awards for Best Value Provider 2016 and Most Recommended Provider 2016.
Another cheap broadband option comes from TalkTalk, which is £20 per month including line rental for 24 months with a £9 setup fee.
If you need a bit more speed, go for the 38Mbps option, which is £27 per month including line rental plus a £30 set-up fee.
And even more speed is available from TalkTalk with the Faster Fibre package at £32 per month. You’ll get up to 76Mbs for that price plus a £30 set-up fee.
Also offering a cheap broadband deal is EE, which currently has a deal that gets you unlimited broadband for £21 per month including line rental, plus £7 router delivery.
The faster option is £28.50 per month for 18 months with a £32 set-up fee.
The faster option is £32.50 per month for 18 months with a £32 set-up fee.
What’s the best broadband for sport?
If you’re interested in sport, you might like in BT’s broadband packages, which include BT’s Sport Pack.
We’d strongly recommend opting for an unlimited plan if you can afford it, so one of the cheapest unlimited options that includes the BT Sport Pack is the 17Mbps deal for £24.99 per month including line rental with a one-off payment of £9.99 upfront.
If you want faster internet, there are also BT’s Infinity fibre broadband packages available. The 52Mbps unlimited package with BT Sport Pack and the new BT Smart Hub router is £29.99 per month including line rental with an upfront cost of £59.99.
Finally, there’s a 76Mbps unlimited option with BT Sport Pack and the new Smart Hub for £44.99 per month including line rental and £29.99 upfront.
BT also offers some TV and broadband bundles starting at £25 per month, which you can view here.
